Hi there. A little update on the Suntalk project. The main musical ideas are in place, so it feels like the right moment to figure out how these pieces will work live. I’m testing a format that gives me flexibility onstage so I can extend sections as the moment unfolds.
This clip is a rehearsal of that approach, with a few edits to shorten the piece. There are timing issues, but this was the first of five takes I recorded last Sunday. It ended up feeling the most alive and the least rehearsed, which tells me I need to get better at keeping the work alive, no matter how many times I run it.
I’m still debating whether this should remain a solo performance, as it is now, or whether I should eventually collaborate with a drummer and a bass player. I’d like to explore that path when the time is right. I also hope to try performing the spoken word live at some point. More fun ahead.
This section of the show is called Tassel and Hook. It’s the second piece in the performance and dives into the period of my life when grief and addiction took over. So thankful for the love and support from people who helped me get past it to be here today.
