This song reaches back into my memory to those dance parties at our cottage. Everyone danced together on the cabin’s patio deck, the floorboards bending from all the bouncing. The next morning, Dad would sometimes have to crawl underneath to reset the support pillars because they’d shifted from the night before.

Earlier in Suntalk, I wrote, ” Heal their souls by healing yours.” That’s exactly what I’m doing with this project. Through these words and this music, I’m trying to heal the souls of my ancestors and mine.

That’s why I felt Shuffle Step had to be the final track of the show. I can see it so clearly: our whole family swinging and bouncing to the beat and singing the melody, all of us together at that moment.
